After the recent flap over PAS President Dato’ Seri Hadi Awang saying that PAS will amend the Federal Constitution to make Islam a way of life, or addin, which saw its Pakatan comrades DAP and PKR not willing to take a proper stand over the issue, PAS has now resorted to more desperate tactics to get their way.
The whole issue of PAS calling a muzakarah is a warning to both DAP and the non-Muslim leaders in PKR that PAS is indeed adamant on enforcing hudud law and establishing a theocratic state, whereby if DAP and PKR want to take over Putrajaya, it is best that they comply with PAS.
By calling for a muzakarah, PAS is indirectly threatening DAP and PKR that they can break ranks with them and to form partnerships with others who are more willing to accommodate their hardline stand. Earlier on 12 May 2012, PAS Dewan Ulama chief Dato’ Harun Taib was also reported to have said that PAS will implement hudud with other similar pacts if their Pakatan partners do not agree with it.
Thus, it is proven that Pakatan Rakyat is not a proper coalition and that it is liable to fall apart at any time. Allies are not supposed to threaten each other, but what PAS is doing is a form of intimidation and bullying, coercing DAP and PKR to step in line with their demands, such as allocating them more seats, so that they can claim to have the backing of the people through this so-called consensus when they start to establish a theocratic state.
It is sad to see DAP cowering to PAS like this. DAP’s stand on secularism is being trodden on, and if DAP was sincere in their stand of keeping to the Federal Constitution, the Rocket should stand up to PAS, and if need be, leave the Pakatan coalition which DAP once did deserted the Barisan Alternatif. Instead, it is forced to bow down to PAS because DAP is aware that it is unable to take over Putrajaya without PAS.
